Circulation Data: Geology Library FY13 Zack Lane ReCAP Coordinator July 2013 ReCAP Columbia University

Geology Circ Data Looks at circulation activity of each library separately Is only one measure of collection usage Presents data both department specific and system-wide Each Circulation Desk uses several happening locations, including [Butler, BorrowDirect, and HSL] Circ data is available from the implementation of Voyager, July 2003 ReCAP Columbia University

Happening Location Data from Happening Locations include Reserves Five primary types of circulation activity: charge, discharge, renewal, recall and hold Renewals and recalls are done in the OPAC Happening Location, dynamically by patrons themselves ReCAP Columbia University

Observations Data for Geoscience begins FY08 Large increase in circ charges at Geology during FY10-FY11 Explained by Science Reserves temporarily shelved during transition to new building Decline in circ activity at Geology of 50.2% Increase in circ activity at Geoscience of 59.6% ReCAP Columbia University

Circ Activity by Collection Reserves increasingly account for larger proportion of circulation activity ReCAP Columbia University

ReCAP Columbia University

Circ Activity by Sub-Collection General collections used by faculty in greater proportion than other departments ReCAP Columbia University

Circulation by Patron Group at Geology Line charts represent usage by year and month Patron Group assignations have changed: Teaching assistants : in 2008 grad students were given primary group OFF instead of GRD Pie charts break down data for FY12 only Bar chart compares patron group charges for each fiscal year ReCAP Columbia University

Observations Undergraduates heaviest users in recent years Large upswing in activity during FY10-FY11 can be attributed to undergraduates Explanation? Relatively steady activity from month to month, even during slow summer and winter periods ReCAP Columbia University

Monthly Patron Group Activity Monthly view reveals periodicity in sync with the academic calendar for graduates, undergraduate and visitors Faculty use is more evenly distributed through the months Faculty have a larger proportion of activity during the summer months ReCAP Columbia University
