Vaccinations (Problem Solving) Class: 1st Secondary Teacher: Fatima Abu Zaid

About the lesson The lesson introduces vaccination as a vital way of preventing dangerous diseases from spreading among people. Moreover, it is considered as one of the most important inventions that keep us secure.

The problem You are a student at Nursery Faculty. You are planning with your colleagues to make an awareness campaign about the necessity of vaccination, how would you do that?

Let's start… What is vaccination? When it was started? What diseases can be got rid of by following vaccination schedule? Dear student, - Brain storm your mind with your group in 5 minutes to give as much ideas about vaccination as you can using the MindMapper.

Task One Strategy: Fragmentation / Simplification of the problem. Students analyze the problem into simpler parts that can be solved independently. Time: work- 15 minutes presentation: 5 minutes Final product: a power point presentation 1- Give examples of some common childhood diseases in the past. 2- How have some common childhood diseases disappeared? 3- What is the substance that people are infected with when being vaccinated?

These web sites may help you: Dear student, Work with your group to design a power point presentation that presents basic information about vaccinations with suitable pictures, then show it to your colleagues. These web sites may help you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaccination http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/health_advice/facts/childhoodvaccinations.htm

Task Two Strategy: Listing Use lists to organize data and find connections among them. Time: work- 15 minutes presentation: 5 minutes Final product: a table of diseases with the time of immunation. Dear student, Doctors follow a fixed vaccination schedule which is a series of vaccinations, including the timing of all doses, which may be either recommended or compulsory, depending on the country of residence to guarantee the health of the body in all stages.

These websites may help you: Dear student, Work with your group to organize these diseases with their age of immunizations in a table. The diseases are (Diphtheria, Hepatitis, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Polio, Rubella, Tetanus,Tuberculosis,Varicella) These websites may help you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaccination_schedule http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/recs/schedules/child-schedule.htm http://www.medicinenet.com/childhood_vaccination_schedule/article.htm

Task three Strategy: Deletion An examination of the data to get rid of redundant information Time: work 10 minutes presentation: 5 minutes Final product: a brochure that aims to spread awareness about the importance of vaccinations in saving lives. Dear student, Choose the most suitable pieces of information from that you have collected about vaccinations to design a brochure about this necessary way of saving lives.
