Understanding Literature Literary Informative Tells a story Typically associated as FICTION 5 subcategories of literary works Character Plot Theme Conflict Setting Gives facts/ information about a topic. Literary Texts Keep in mind the 5 elements of literary works. - Characters (Who) - Setting (Where) - Plot (What) - Theme (Big Message) - Conflict (Issues)

SOL Objective: 6.3 Understanding a variety of texts. Content Objective: Students will identify and understand the differences between literary and informative texts. Level 3 Level 6 Level 1 and 2 Level 4 and 5 Students will match terms with the appropriate texts based on the power point notes provided and create interactive set of notes through cut and paste organizer. Students will use guided notes to identify important vocabulary pertaining to the topic and complete the graphic organizer. Students will copy and listen for key vocabulary terms used in the video and notes in power point and complete a teacher-created graphic organizer. Students will copy and listen for content language vocabulary and differentiate between literary and informative texts on a self-created graphic organizer.
