2007 CMBG Conference Impact Evaluation Process Introduction –Impact Evaluations used at the front end of the Engineering Change process (after project approval/scoping and prior to start of detailed design). May also use if scope changes. –Used to communicate scope of planned change to affected workgroups and solicit input to design/ installation/ testing. –Also used to initiate a review by affected workgroups of impact of change on their programs, procedures, tasks.

2007 CMBG Conference Impact Evaluation Process Background –Ineffective involvement at front end of design process by affected plant organizations. –Many Engineering Changes missed target (didnt completely solve the problem). –Affected programs and FCI often not updated in a timely way if at all. –Needed process to force front end input to design, assessment of impacts, and tracking and accountability of follow-up actions.

2007 CMBG Conference Impact Evaluation Process Process overview –Engineers identify affected workgroups to receive Impact Evaluations (e.g. Operations, Maintenance, System Engineering, others) –Action items to perform evaluation are sent electronically with Impact Evaluation form attached. –Objective is to get input to engineer on planned change and allow fine tuning of scope prior to Initial Design Meeting held before start of detailed design work.

2007 CMBG Conference Impact Evaluation Process Process Overview (continued) –Affected workgroups must generate action items to track identified impacts within their organization. –Actions are linked as restraints to the appropriate phase of the EC process Design completion Return of SSC to service Design Record Closeout –Electronic notification sent to affected workgroups at SSC return to service after change. This triggers action completions.

2007 CMBG Conference Impact Evaluation Process Positive Results: –Key workgroups now actively engaged in process. –Established accountability by all plant workgroups to identify and address impacts of plant changes –Significant improvement in meaningful input to design. Satisfied customers. –Improved identification and tracking of affected FCI and completion of actions to update. A healthy CM program. –Improved management of impact of changes on preventative maintenance and spare parts programs.

2007 CMBG Conference Impact Evaluation Process Areas for Improvement: –Some workgroups still not adhering to Impact Evaluation process. Not doing evaluations and/or creating actions. –Get lead PPL engineer involved in screening AE use of Impact Evaluations. –Improve communications to workgroups on their outstanding open actions. –Improve timeliness of action completion. –Improve monitoring of CR program to identify weaknesses in Impact Evaluation checklists.
