Test Taking Strategies Raise your test scores with these simple strategies.

Hint Do NOT second guess yourself – if your instincts say one thing – it is most likely the right choice….often the first guess is the correct one.

tricks and traps: Don’t leave answers blank on the answer sheet – solidly fill in all blanks in the end – even if you are guessing. If you have unanswered questions in the end make educated guesses using the process of elimination – mark out answers that are obviously wrong and narrow your guessing field.

Reading Comprehension – the strategy Look at the questions prior to reading the passage STRATEGY I - Be aware of the main idea, important details, inferences and tone. STRATEGY II –Underline key parts, sentences, or words in the passage

Writing Ability Things that are measured when you are asked to write an essay: Punctuation and capitalization Grammar and usage Diction, style and sentence structure Organization

Writing Ability – Formatting and Composition First find what the prompt wants Write a clear introduction (hook+topic+thesis) The Body – develop your two points and use examples and explanations Restate your introduction to conclude

Now, we practice! We’re going to the computers and putting your new knowledge into action!
