Teacher Tutorial Welcome to the TUNEin to READING Welcome to the teacher tutorial of TUNEin to READING. This tutorial will help you navigate through the teacher module where you can monitor students’ progress as well as add or delete any students from your database.

Teacher login To access the teacher module, click on Teacher login located on the TUNEin to Reading home page. If you have forgotten or misplaced your login information, please refer back to the “School Setup Guide” tutorial to change the password. *Remember we recommend all schools to use a universal login and password.

Student Explorer Once you are logged into the teacher module of TUNEin to Reading the screen you will see is called the “Student Explorer” . The Student Explorer screen displays a roster of all of the classes and students in your school on the left hand side of the screen.

Student Explorer To view a specific student’s progress, click on their name. You will see a list of the student’s quiz results for the past week. You can adjust the date range by changing the “from” and “to” date. One of the benefits of the Student Explorer is that it allows you to get a snapshot of each student’s quiz scores without having to pull and print reports. However, more detailed information about your class and students can be accessed through several reports.

Reports To further analyze a student’s progress in TUNEin to Reading, there are a few reports available for review. To access reports click “setup”, then “reports” and a drop-down menu of available reports will appear. Certain reports will give you a snapshot of your entire class while other reports provide data at the individual student level. Today we will walk you through a few of the reports that will be most helpful in monitoring student progress. The first report that we will take a look at is the “Diagnostic Summary” report.

Diagnostic Summary The Diagnostic Summary report provides cumulative progress information for each class. It provides information on the reading level, quizzes and diagnosis of their reading skills. You will find the diagnosis code at the bottom of the report. This report may be particularly helpful for classroom and reading resource teachers who work closely with the students. This report will demonstrate a student’s strong and weak areas of reading to help teachers know where to focus with the students to help them succeed and become better readers. If you want to see how each individual student is doing, we recommend pulling the “Student Progress” report.

Student Progress This is the “Student Progress” report. This report a great way to see how an individual student is doing in TUNEin to READING. On the right hand side of the screen you will see the students’ total star count for each colored star. The stars are used as a tool to help keep the students engaged in the program by providing them with instant gratification as they complete a singing session in TUNEin to Reading. As the students earn their stars they are building their fluency skills that are essential to becoming a successful reader. As seen in the student tutorial, each song is designated a specific number of points depending on the difficulty level of the song. In order for the students to earn points for the song “exercise”, a quiz score of at least 80% must be attained. TUNEin to READING automatically adjusts the students reading level according to a student’s progress with the program. If a student does not pass 3 consecutive “unique” songs, the student’s reading level is adjusted to a lower level. This change in reading levels can be seen in the students progress screen. A big indicator that a student has been demoted or promoted is when their earned points change to “0”. This means they are starting at a new level with a new goal. Do not worry about lost data. All of their cumulative data will be found it their “Student Progress” screen. If the student scores 100% on 10 unique songs, then the student’s reading level is adjusted to the next higher level. This is a great report to periodically print and hand out to the students to take home. It is a great for parents to how the student is progressing in TUNEin to READING. Now, if you want to see how the student is doing in each quiz I recommend you take a look at the “Student Quiz Detail” report

Student Quiz This is the “Student Quiz Detail” report. This report allows you to take a much closer look at how the student is doing on individual quizzes. For this report you can gather information such as how many questions the student answered incorrectly, what type of questions he answered incorrectly (direct vocabulary, inferential vocabulary or comprehension), and how many minutes it took the student to complete the quiz. This report is very detailed and can contain many pages, I do not recommend printing this report but can be beneficial to review with the students.

Student manager The next functionality found in the teacher module is the “Student Manager.” This section allows you to make changes to your students’ profiles and make changes to your student roster. In order to access the “Student Manager” click setup and select student manager.

Add A Student At the top of the screen you will see four icons: Add a Class, Add Student, Delete and Properties To add a student, click the second icon, “Add Student.”

ADD A STUDENT Once the “Create New Student” dialog box appears, fill in the fields provided. Passwords are case sensitive and can be any length. We recommend that you use their initial or any series of number they are currently using in the school for ease of use. For example, lunch number or student IDs work very well. If you choose NOT to use passwords, deselect the “Enforce Password Use” box. Be sure to indicate what Reading Level each student is currently working on based on your reading assessment data. When complete, click “Add” and the student will be added to your class. *Be sure to assign the students to the correct class if there are multiple classes in your school.

Make changes to student profile If you need to make any changes to the student’s profile click on the icon with the italicized I.

Make changes to student profile cont… Once you make the necessary changes be sure to click “Save”.

Delete a student If you need to delete any student from your roster, simply click on the student’s name and click on the red “X” icon. The student’s name and data will be removed from the system.
