Outline What we have been up to aside monitoring Stove Count (2 Million by 2020) Pressing Issues on the road to 2020 What should we do more/less Insights

What Have We been up to Designed a civic education programme based on cleaner cookstoves for after-school clubs together with UP. Re-published the Malawi Cookstove Manual (Chichewa & English) Monitoring for the 2 Million by 2020 Goal. We have been an active network in feeding information about cookstoves and cleaner cooking in Malawi Circulating the monthly news letter. We will be publishing a magazine with support from PERFORM - USAID

Cookstove Count Progression

PROJECTIONS: 2018 - 2020

Pressing Issues on the road to 2020 • Some potential customers in the rural areas find the price of the chitetezo mbaula expensive • Some organisations do not appraise us (MBAULA Secretariat) when they have new stove projects. Some of these projects have sold or disseminated stoves which can be counted towards the 2 million goal • Stove producers who work independently without NGO support find it extremely difficult to find stove markets. • Some urban residents do not want to adopt the fuel efficient stoves which are being promoted because they simply use firewood

Are we on track?

What should we do more/Less • We need a solution for the urban residents who have better purchasing power than the rural residents • Organisations which have stove projects should be proactive in notifying us (MBAULA Secretariat) of the numbers of stove they have sold and disseminated • We need to create a centralised platform for stove producers to enable them to have a channel to access stove markets regardless of their affiliation • Intensify on educating the masses even in the urban sector where some still have no idea that there are fuel efficient stoves available

What should we do more/Less We need to advocate more for LPG as an alternative over charcoal in the urban areas

Insights There is a chitetezo stove demand in Mozambique and Zambia Women represent over 80% composition of production groups Women are the main beneficiaries of Fixed stoves We are not counting the common charcoal ceramic stoves What other stoves do we need to count apart from the Chitetezo, Aleva, Mtetezi, Bwezi, Envirofit,TLC, Institutional and Changu changu stoves

Going forward Looking forward to working with all stakeholders to achieve and reach the ambitious goal. To continually be a neutral network on clean cooking technologies and fuels

If there are any Questions, please feel free to ask the MBAULA Team
