Window Panes Reviewing Vocabulary

Window paning is a great strategy for organizing steps to a process or revisiting previously learned vocabulary. The teacher will provide you with information needed to complete your window panes each week. You will be given 8 words each Monday. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to catch up when you return to class. You will complete your window pane during the week, either during “dead” time in the class, during homeroom, or at home. It will be evaluated on Friday for completion and accuracy for a class grade. You will have a quiz every other Friday over the window pane words for a quiz grade.

Purpose of Window Panes It provides review of past material It gives the student an opportunity to connect past instruction to present instruction It allows the students to make a brain connection that makes sense to him or her.

How to complete your window pane A window pane should have no more than eight cells. Each cell should contain the term, a simple picture, and a very brief explanation in your own words. The pane should involve details, not just simple pictures.

OPTIONS: Complete the window pane as a word document on your computer at home by completing your own definition and finding images from Google that work. Print out entire Window Pane document to turn in on Friday. Complete your window pane without a computer; cut out pictures or images that are appropriate for the vocabulary word and paste them on the window pane. Complete the entire pane with all of your information and illustrations done by hand…no computer work or pasted pictures.

You will need to have a section in your notebook labeled “Window Panes” and keep up with them for future review.

Your quiz every other Friday will include: Questions that are related to two weeks of window panes that show that you understand the vocabulary An open-ended question in which you will answer based on the work that you completed on your window panes.
