Operation Dynamo and The Battle of France Jacob .L and Vlad .M

Operation Dynamo. Operation Dynamo, also known as “Le Miracle de Dunkerque” (The Dunkirk Miracle” was a mission to save French and British soldiers that were encircled by the German forces. It all starts May 10th in 1940, and it will last for approximately a month until June 25th 1940. 400 000 troops were stranded in Dunkirk, after being encircled by the Germans, and only 338 226 (198,229 British troops, and 139,997 French troops) were successfully evacuated to Britain. The evacuated troops would eventually be either demobilized and sent back to France, or would serve to liberate France and Western Europe from Nazi occupation later on. The evacuation was very difficult, as the German air force, the Luftwaffe kept on bombing Dunkirk and the boats leaving to Britain. The British Air Force was heroic in protecting the soldiers during their evacuation. But 35,000 to 40,000 troops, mostly French, died in the operation, while huge amounts of equipment, fuel and ammunition fell under German control.
