What we teach Every term will be a curriculum planner on the website of what the children are learning for the whole term. We cover topics such as: Anglo Saxons, Tudors, Rivers, Rainforests, making a salad- healthy eating, sound, electricity, teeth, digestion, journey through art work, African drumming, rainforest drawing using watercolour, designing and making pencil cases plus more.

Homework Children will have an English and a Maths homework work book. They also have a spelling book. -Children will receive homework every Friday to be handed in the following Wednesday, in preparation for their times table and spelling tests. We are also introducing a ‘challenge’ when the children can choose 1 extra piece of homework to do in their spare time. This will have more of a creative focus. Homework books need to be covered. No writing or drawings on the cover of books Children must take their own pencils to school every day If the child loses their book, they will need to replace it Given on Friday – returned on Wednesday. Grammar and numeracy work Spellings Children hand in homework diary and homework. Lost books

Homework My USO – year 4 homework pages Show what it looks like- all informtation to parents will be on there.

Reading It is very important that your children are reading regularly at home. This includes reading aloud to a parent or carer, as well as hearing someone read to them. 20 minutes a day everyday. Children will have a reading journal in which they will complete tasks on the book they are reading. The journal must be signed by a parent or carer at least 3 times a week.

Times tables In year 4, it is expected that children should know all of their times tables. Please practice with your child as it will help them with their ability and confidence in maths. We are expecting a times table test in June 2019 for year 4 which will be online.

Presentation Children should take pride in every piece of work they complete. They must use their best cursive handwriting, including the date and title, which are underlined with a ruler. Presentation – Use a pencil Write the date at the top of the page and underline it with a ruler If your child makes a mistake, rub it out or put a single line through it. Joined handwriting

Internet safety It is important that children stay safe whilst using the internet. We teach the children not to share any personal information or passwords with anyone. They are also encouraged to tell an adult if they see or receive anything that makes them feel uncomfortable. We need to work together to ensure they are safe at all times.

Healthy Eating Please ensure that your children have a water bottle and a healthy school lunch each day. This includes when children bring packed lunch for a school trip. Healthy Eating Packed lunch – encourage healthy, balanced lunch Break time – piece of fruit or fruit drink. No crisps, chocolate bars, sweets Water bottle
