Hexbug Design Challenge Ultimate Maze Competition To enter, we need to design a maze that meets the following criteria: The maze has to be at least 12 inches long. The maze must include 2 corners. Hexbug needs to: Travel from start to finish without escaping or being touched Make a noise while going through the maze. Meet the Hexbug Nano. 1 – Introduce problem Before you start working on the challenge, I want you to get a chance to play with the hexbugs and see how they move and act. I will give you just a few mins to play with them (INTRO how to turn them on and off)

Materials Budget Limited to 5 items: You also get: Can be more than one of each material Ex: 3 aluminum foil sheets and 2 foam sheets You also get: 12 inches of tape Scissors Materials Amount Aluminum foil 6” x 6” Copy Paper (half sheet) 8.5” x 5.5” Construction paper (half) 9” x 6” Craft Sticks Set of 5 Foam sheet Pipe cleaners Set of 2 Yarn 12 in In order to build your maze, you will have access to the following materials and a budget/limit of 5 items and 12 inches of tape

Let’s explore Send one person from your group to get: Hexbug A bag of samples of each material Keep the challenge in mind! This hits on the testing, not sure if we want to keep this or get rid of this… as testing the materials would be something that would make it a better engineering lesson?

Let’s Build our Designs Limited to 5 items: Free: 12 inches of tape Scissors CRITERIA: The maze has to be at least 12 inches long The maze has to have 2 corners Hexbug needs to: Travel from start to finish without escaping or being touched Make a noise while traveling through the maze. Materials Amount Aluminum foil 6” x 6” Copy Paper (half sheet) 8.5” x 5.5” Construction paper (half) 9” x 6” Craft Sticks Set of 5 Foam sheet Legos (limit 2) Bag of assorted Pipe cleaners Set of 2 Yarn 12 in In order to build your maze, you will have access to the following materials and a budget/limit of 5 items and 12 inches of tape

Testing our mazes We will now test as a group! Complete your checklist after you have tested your maze.
