Speeches By Rachael, Spencer, Serena, Brandon, and Raesta
Today's lesson First you will take the test individually, and then split into 6 groups of 4 once everyone is done. Correct answers will result in 1 shot per team. Point values vary.
Question 1
Correct answer- B Answer B is correct because of the strong diction used. It creates a powerful emotional appeal. D is also a logical answer, but B uses the strongest wording to really hook the reader.
Question 2
Correct answer- C The author uses parallel construction by the repetition of we, used in a specific pattern.
Question 3
Correct answer- D D is the correct answer because the democracy is supposed to allow everyone equal rights, so if the women aren't allowed to vote, it's not the real deal
Question 4
Correct answer- C The repetition of this phrase is used to really emphasize what the government is to the people (them).
Question 5
Correct answer- A A is correct because the passage doesn't talk about extending beyond voting rights. Also, writing a new constitution isn't even in question, and as we know, the states don't have the power over voting rights. Therefore, A is the logical answer.
Question 6
Correct answer- B B is the correct answer because the question asks what would weaken the argument. This information goes against the speakers claim, so adding it would only be taking away from the speech.
Question 7
Correct answer- A A is the correct answer because in referencing another speech, parallelism isn't used, symbolism isn't, and neither is synecdoche, so allusion is the logical answer.
Question 8
Correct answer-D D is the correct answer because the author dreams of a land where everyone can be viewed as equal.
