Active/Passive Voice Active voice—the subject of the sentence is doing the action of the verb Examples: The dog is taking a nap. The coach instructed us. The author provides helpful diagrams. The tutor is helping Sharon. Someone has erased the tapes. Jody hit the ball over the outfield fence.
