Show Me The Genes! Unit 4 Genetics

Show Me The Genes! Key Question: What role do chromosomes play in the inheritance of genes? Initial Thoughts:

Evidence 1: Reading Use Cornell Notes while reading the article. Write down all the STOPPING TO THINK 1-5 in the left column and answers and other info from the text in the right column. Paste and Fill in the Comparison Matrix: Mitosis vs. Meiosis

Analysis Questions Draw a flow diagram (a series of pictures) that shows the breakdown of a chromosome from: Cell ChromosomeDNAgenesallele What does DNA look like? Look at the plant cell pictured on page 1 of the lab sheet. Remember that genes are found on chromosomes and control traits. Give at least 2 examples of traits that are expressed in the strawberry’s phenotype.

Summary At first what did you think about how chromosomes play a role in the inheritance of genes? What did you learn about how chromosomes play a role in the inheritance of genes? (Minimum of 3 sentences!!!) What are some further thoughts or questions you have about chromosomes and DNA?

Reflection Draw two sex cells before and after fertilization. Write the correct number of chromosomes for each cell.
