Youth & Government Middle & High School Advisor: TBD What do they do? The purpose of the Youth and Government Program is to prepare a selected group of young people for moral and political leadership in the American democratic process by providing guidance, training and experience in the theory and practice of determining public policy on the state level. Meetings TBD

UIL Academics Middle & High School Advisor: Mr. Chapa What do they do? High School UIL is a great way to show off how smart you are and compete against other local high schools. There are many events to compete in from Math to Writing, Spelling to History, Accounting to Journalism. Last year, the YWLA sent 5 girls to Texas Tech University for two nights to compete against the best students in our region. Be sure to check to congratulate them when you see them their free, new,.... letter jackets! See Mr. Chapa to find out more and sign up.  You're smart, it's time to show it!

SASS 6th Grade Advisor: TBD What do they do? SASS stands for Sisters Assisting Sixth Grade Sisters. Each 6th grader is paired up with a big sister SASS leader. SASS leaders will help with 6th graders as they transition to life at the YWLA. Some weeks leaders will visit 6th grade advisories to check-in on their little sisters and do mini-lessons to help with their YWLA transition. SASS also hosts Sister Study Hall once a week after school where students can get their homework completed with the help of older students' tutoring.

ERC Club Middle & High School Advisor: Mrs. Schmid What do they do? “Environmentally Responsible Citizens” Club This is the club for those who want to have a positive impact on the environment through action, education and innovation. Students in this club will have the opportunity to earn community service hours.

GSA High School Advisor: Mr. Pena What do they do? The Gay/Straight Alliance is a club that focuses on creating a safe space for both Straight and LGBTQ students to meet, support each other, talk about issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity and expression, and work to end homophobia and transphobia. The GSA works on educating themselves and the broader school community about sexual orientation and gender identity issues. We bring in outside speakers to cover topics such as LGBTQ history, and organize "Pride Week" and "LGBTQ Awareness Events" that offer a series of educational workshops, panels, and pride celebrations.

Dungeons & Dragons High School Advisor: Mr. Pena What do they do? Have you ever wanted to become a hero? Have you ever thought about joining your friends on a quest to destroy evil, and save mankind form a seemingly unstoppable doom? Do you think you have an imagination strong enough to create the ultimate character? If so then perhaps D&D club is for you. But be warned, this club is not for the faint of heart! D&D club has a limited number of spaces, so make sure to stop by Mr. Peña’s room (330) ASAP to learn more!

Whiz Quiz Middle School Advisor: Mrs. Rogers & Ms. Harris What do they do? 6th grade Whiz Quiz is sponsored by Andrea Rogers and co- sponsored by Tyler Harris. 7th and 8th grade Whiz Quiz is sponsored by Tyler Harris and co-sponsored by Andrea Rogers. Whiz Quiz is both fun and competitive. We hope to practice during either lunches or advisory this year. It's an Academic quiz competition where we compete as a team against other schools. Come help us win or cheer us on! In the past, matches have been after school on Tuesday for 6th grade or Thursday for 7th and 8th grade.
