What is WorldSkills UK LIVE and why does it matter? It’s the UK's largest apprenticeships, skills and careers event It’s jam-packed full of opportunities to: Learn more about the types of careers and industries that exist Meet with employers and create some contacts that might just kick-start your future Try different skills and world of work tasks for yourself See what skills competitions are all about and learn how some young people are becoming the best in the world in their chosen career Get an idea of what your future could look like and what you need to do to get there

There are so many options The world of work is changing rapidly, some of the top jobs today didn’t exist ten years ago! There will be lots of new careers being created as technology and the world advances. The way you can enter the world of work is changing too - apprenticeships, technical education, graduate careers there’s more choice than ever before. It is exciting, but keeping up can be tricky, WorldSkills UK LIVE is a great place to to see what careers are really like, which ones will be popular and how you can get started with them. Here are some of the basics that you need to know:

Careers Know-how Changes to apprenticeships mean that you can now study a Level 2 all the way through to a degree apprenticeship and even higher. There are hundreds of graduate apprenticeship routes including; nurse, engineer, teacher and lawyer. Apprenticeships are a great way to earn and learn, you study on the job with days at college, university or online learning, your employer pays for your training and wages as you build your career and qualifications. Graduate, entry level options are great too, and provide a different type of experience. You could also consider starting your own business! Being clued up on all the options will help you make better choices. You can get careers information in lots of places including WorldSkills UK LIVE and Youth Employment UK.

Careers Know-how You may choose one career or pathway and then change your mind, complete your learning and then switch to something else. There is no rule book here, but it is key you make the most of the opportunities around you. Whatever career or careers you choose there is one guarantee, employers are looking for motivated, enthusiastic, hardworking young professionals. They work hard to create brilliant opportunities for young people and so want to recruit candidates that have invested in themselves and that have great skills such as: Communication, teamwork, problem solving, self belief and self management Show a future employer that you are a Young Professional and the opportunities will open up!
