Presentation transcript:

L.O. I can write a poem that reflects parts of me

We all have qualities that make us special and form a part of who we are. Talk to your partner and share adjectives or phrases that describe your characteristics (qualities). You can use the word-bank to help you or think of words of your own. ?

All these words will come in handy when you write your poem later on. This outline represents you. Pick the words and phrases that you think describe you best and write them on the inside. Be as creative as you want- you could even write each word in a different style! All these words will come in handy when you write your poem later on.

Before we begin to gather ideas for our own poems, we are going to have a look at some examples. Read each poem with your partner and highlight any sentences you like. Is there a line you like the best?

I am a bookworm with my head in a great novel I wonder what it would be like to meet my favourite characters I hear the wind whistling through the autumn leaves I see the world filled with dazzling smiles I pretend to be confident even when I’m a little nervous I feel happy when I am with my family and friends I touch the sky hoping to catch the stars I worry about getting things wrong I cry when I am happy and when I am sad I understand that it’s ok to feel scared sometimes I say ‘keep going’ when things get tough I try my best to make everyone happy I hope to become a famous author I a bookworm with my head in a great novel

I am a Muslim girl who loves my family I wonder if I will ever go back to Pakistan again I feel a big wave coming I smell my mother’s perfume I can hear people shouting from around the world I pretend to be a pirate with my brothers I feel good to know that I am going back to Pakistan It touches my heart when people are nice when I am sad I worry about my parents evening It makes me happy when people respect me I know for sure I will be able to write neat again I always say “yes” when I hear that we are doing something fun I dream of being a teacher teaching maths I try to make my handwriting better

I am, I wonder I am (two special characteristics about you) I wonder (something you are curious about) I hear (an imaginary or actual sound) I see (an imaginary or actual sight) I am (the first line of the poem is repeated) I pretend (something you could pretend to do) I feel (a feeling about the imaginary) I touch (an imaginary touch) I worry (something that could really bother you) I cry (something that makes you sad) I understand (something you know is true) I say (something you believe in) I try (something you could make an effort to do) I hope (something you hope for) I am (first line repeated)

L.O. I can write a poem that reflects parts of me Read each line of the poem and think of a sentence that reflects you. Rehearse the sentence and once you are happy with it write it down. Don’t forget to use the example poems, the word-bank and all of your ideas from earlier to help you!

After sharing our poems with each other, what have you learnt about other people in our class? Is there anything similar about all of our poems? Did any poems surprise you?
