Task force on Statistics and Projections Colombo, Sri Lanka, 30 January – 1 February 2012 INTERGOVERNMENTAL GROUP ON TEA

Background Increased transparency and quality of data collected for the analysis of tea market. Enhance the participation on Member Countries in the Generation of Medium-term Outlook for tea. Capacity building: short-term and medium-term analysis Policy analysis

Plan of Action 2012-2013 Consolidate of the collaboration between the focal points and the Secretariat for the generation of medium-term. Using the FAO Tea viewer, focal points will provide/update projection numbers for production, consumption, trade, and macroeconomic data, if available. These should be prepared ahead of the intersessional and the main sessions. The focal points invite other producing and consuming countries to participate in the projections.

Plan of Action 2012-2013 Capacity building will be conducted as side events during meetings of the IGG on tea. This will enable Member countries to enhance their capacity in the generation of medium-term outlook. The focal points will need to be part of the official delegation attending the IGG. Model enhancement should include new supply specification to account for the differences between smallholders and estate tea production.
