Stratus Flat, Hazy, Featureless, Gray, Blanket. In Latin Stratus means “to spread out”.

Stratus As you can tell Stratus Clouds are gray, and seem to cover the whole sky. Stratus

Nimbostratus Light Rain, Snow, Dark, Low Lying. Nimbus: Rain

NimboStratus Nimbostratus clouds are similar to Stratus but nimbostratus produce rain.

Fractus A type of cloud that forms under stratus level clouds. Fractus

Cumulus Puffy, Cotton Like, Clear Edges. Cumulus: Heap/ Pile Forms from convection.

Cumulus looks like Cotton

Stratocumulus Low Lying Blanket, Large, Rounded. Looks like rolls and waves.

StratoCumulus Stratocumulus clouds look like rolling clouds.

CumuloNimbus Tall, Dense, Towers, “Column Rain” Puffy. Formed by upward movement.

AltoStratus It is exactly like a regular stratus blanket, but it is mid level. Sun can shine through it.
