From 2002 he joined Airbus’ Office in Madrid, starting in operational CM activities, he was finally leading several improvement activities in CM and PLM solutions for the A380 program. Awarded in 2005 and 2006 with three different Airbus Awards for Excellence in Quality and Efficiency categories. Appointed in 2008 member of the CM college of Experts, he moved to the Airbus’ Headquarter s in Toulouse and he undertook the role of CM process Architect. He started his new mission joining the concept plateau of new A350XWB program, in charge of the definition of the product architecture backbone. Currently is driving CM research activities in support of next generation PLM solutions. * Only to be filled for L5 proposals

Today Airbus has subsidiaries in North America, Japan and China, and has engineering facilities, spares centres and training centres across North America, China and Russia, as well as nearly 300 resident customer support mangers based with airlines around the world. In the near future it also plans to open new engineering and training facilities in India and a single-aisle final assembly line in China. >450 customers & operators 54,000 employees >80 nationalities 9 engineering design centres 250 resident customer support managers 4 training centres 160 offices 24 hour customer support (365 days a year) 50 flight simulators 1 global company

Configuration Management (CM) Definition CM like a transversal process enabler for a distributed but integrated PLM - Moises MARTINEZ-ABLANEDO February 2012 Configuration Management (CM) Definition Wikipedia: “Configuration Management is a field of management that focuses on establishing and maintaining consistency of a system's or product's performance and its functional and physical attributes with its requirements, design, and operational information throughout its life .” ANSI (American National Standards Institute) in cooperation with EIA (Electronic Industries Alliance): "Configuration Management ... is a management process for establishing and maintaining consistency of a product's performance, its functional and physical attributes, with its requirements, design and operational information, throughout its life.“ ISO 10007 2003: “Configuration Management is a management activity that applies technical and administrative direction over the life cycle of a product, its configuration items, and related product configuration information.” Military Handbook
CM in Airbus WHY DO WE NEED CONFIGURATION MANAGEMENT IN AIRBUS CM like a transversal process enabler for a distributed but integrated PLM - Moises MARTINEZ-ABLANEDO February 2012 CM in Airbus WHY DO WE NEED CONFIGURATION MANAGEMENT IN AIRBUS Airbus produces several aircraft families A large range of options is proposed to the customers Not two aircraft are the same: customers choice and standard evolves continuously An aircraft is made up of thousands of parts made in different countries. Transport of A380 parts to the final assembly line in Toulouse Number of aircraft in service for each family A more and more complex Management: Airbus produces aircraft of a very high technology, with increasing manufacturing complexity and production rates. The number of parts and combinations of solutions grow with product complexity, as do the combinations of configurations to be managed. This is why configuration management has become a major activity in Airbus.

CM like a transversal process enabler for a distributed but integrated PLM - Moises MARTINEZ-ABLANEDO February 2012 Context & Rationale The business processes and current PLM solutions for the management of the product caused several disruptions that does not allow an efficient and smooth data flow and integration. Continuous data re-use is limited because of the segregated management among the different data domains among the different program phases. The aim of the presentation is to go thru the current issues and challenges to re-focus PLM innovation and process architecture into derived opportunities.
