TIPS Frame the request in terms they can hear What’s important to the stakeholder? Frame your message around what’s important to them Technique/message may change with the audience

TIPS Understand and use your power (voice) 7 Power Bases Expert power: Because of my experience/ credentials Information power: Because of what I know Referent power: Because I am so likeable Legitimate power: Because of my position Reward power: Because of what I can give Connection power: Because of who I know Coercive power: Because of what I can take away

TIPS LCS: Like, Concern, Suggestion or Request I like…, my concern is…, I suggest… No saying “but…”

TIPS Ask questions that get them to think with you Formulate a question instead of a statement Turn your concern into them thinking with you
