Laylatul Qadr (The Night of Power). To express an understanding of Laylatul Qadr. To analyse the significance of this night for Islam today. “Verily! We have sent it (Quran) down in the Night of Decree (Lailatul-Qadr). And what will make you know what the Night of Decree is? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. Therein descend the angels and the Rooh (i.e. Gabriel) by Allaah’s Permission with all Decrees, Peace! until the appearance of dawn.” (Al-Qadr 97: 1-5) Do Now: Analyse the quote in front of you. What is it referring too. What link is there to the story of Muhammad. What is the importance of this for Muslims today.

Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger as saying: He who observed the fasts of Ramadan with faith and seeking reward (from Allah), all his previous sins would be forgiven, and he who observed prayer on Lailat-ul- Qadr with faith and seeking reward (from Allah), all his previous sins would be forgiven. [Sahih Muslim Book 6, Hadith 209] Salim reported on the authority of his father that a person saw Lailat-ul- Qadr on the 27th (of Ramadan). Thereupon Allah’s Apostle said: I see that your dreams agree regarding the last ten (nights of Ramadan). So seek it on an odd number (of these ten nights). [Sahih Muslim Book 13, Hadith 269] Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with them) reported Allah’s Messenger as saying: Seek it (Lailat-ul-Qadr) in the last (ten nights). If one among you shows slackness and weakness (in the earlier part of Ramadan), it should not be allowed to prevail upon him in the last week. [Sahih Muslim Book 13, Hadith 271] Activation 1: From these passages what can you learn about Laylatul Qadr. Make a small mind map.

Activation 2: Watch the video clip: https://www. youtube. com/watch Why do we not know the specific dates of Laylatul Qadr? When COULD it be? When is it most likely to be? What should Muslims be doing in this time? Why? Clip 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EGf32IcUPs Take notes on the meaning of Laylatul Qadr
