Instructions Definition: Step by step guide on how to do something, or how to put something together. Example: How to build a paper airplane How to make a model car How to fold the American flag

Directions Guidance for making or using something Examples: How to bake a cake How to make a peanut butter and jelly On a test- to guide you on what to do

Letter Definition: A written or printed note sent to a person or organization, usually through the mail. For our purposes, it will be for an organization. They are generally long Example: When you get fired When you get hired Recommendation/ your child is failing

Bio Definition: Short for biography. Examples: Introduce a guest speaker Used on a company website

Memo Used to relay a small amount of information. Generally a reminder. Usually only a few sentences. Example: “Meeting today at 11.” “Office meeting on Friday.”

E-mail Definition: Used to relay information. Goes more in depth than a memo. Examples: Fire drill and send procedures “Welcome to the Office”

Proposal Definition: One suggests an idea that he/she is planning. Discusses how to get something done. Examples: We need to implement a new e-mail system, propose how we will do that. -We need to add another production line, write how that can be accomplished.

Report Definition: Tell what is happening on a given topic. (Think book report). Example: I need you to write a report on second shift Go to Mrs. Brooks’ class and report on her first block.
