Girls’ Education in Hodan District, Mogadishu-Somalia Author ABDIRISAK MOHAMED SAID

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES: What are the challenges and opportunities of girls’ education in Hodan district, Mogadishu? RESEARCH METHODOLOGY: A qualitative approach, using secondary sources (e.g. reports, online searches, books and other relevant academic articles) and collecting primary data: semi-structured interviews from 5 KII & 2 FGDs which were conducted among school management, female teachers, parents, educated girls, religious leaders & members of the ministry of education.

RESEARCH FINDINGS: Educated girls in Hodan district have a positive impact on economic and social development in their community Educated girls feel personal autonomy, self-respect and self- confidence, and are able to discover their own potential talent, to develop themselves fully Educated mothers are fountains of knowledge for her children and other families Educated girls understand and help to reduce girls’ educational challenges Mothers can serve as role models and voices for the rest of the girls in world Educated women participate economic and social development their community.
