Timeline for Program Planning

Important Dates Friday, January 12 – Sunday, February 4th Student Portal open for Course Registration by students Before February 4th, all students will have seen a presentation by Counselors in their English classes explaining PP process and procedures. February 5 – March 2, 2018 Counselors will meet with students individually to review course selections, prerequisites, and graduation requirements.

Dates, Continued. . . . Tuesday, March 13, 2018 Verification sheets will be available on student portal. Thursday, March 15, 2018 Students making changes should return changes/signed Verification form to Advisor. Verification Sheets only need to be returned if student is making changes to their course requests.

NO OTHER CHANGES WILL BE PERMITTED. PLEASE CHOOSE COURSES CAREFULLY. Course Changes No changes will be made to student course requests after March 22, 2018. Changes in course requests will ONLY be honored for the following two reasons: Failure to meet a course prerequisite; or A level change NO OTHER CHANGES WILL BE PERMITTED. PLEASE CHOOSE COURSES CAREFULLY.

All Students Have: Access to ONLINE Program of Studies. Students without Internet access at home may come to the Guidance Office to view the POS online, or to review a paper copy. PP FAQ’s

How many credits are needed to Graduate?

Students need the following: 4.0 credits English 4.0 credits Mathematics 4.0 credits Social Studies 3.0 credits Science (one must be Biology) 1.0 credits PE/Health 10.75 credits Electives .05 credit Performance Assessment (which includes .25 credit from 9th grade assessment, and .25 credit from Career Plan.) Total: 27.25 credits to graduate from CB.

How will my student know the appropriate courses to request?

Teacher Recommendations All first and second semester teachers in core classes will make a recommendation for your child’s next-appropriate course level. Students should follow their teachers’ recommendations, and take the most rigorous schedule that is appropriate for them. Counselors will review students’ selections, and make additional suggestions.

My student is just starting his math course in 2nd Semester – how will he know if he will meet the prerequisite for next year’s math course right now?

Review of Course selections Students should recommend the “next course” in sequence. (See grids in Program of Studies). Levels should depend on student’s past and present performance in class, their interest levels, and their willingness to maintain the required level of rigor. We review students course selections again in May, and make sure they’re meeting the prerequisites for that course. If not, we will adjust levels for next year.

Why ALICE training? Changes in Best Practices have occurred nationally for intruder on campus procedures ALICE is a set of proactive, options-based strategies that incorporates recommendations from: Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) US Department of Education Multiple law enforcement agencies

Why ALICE training? Developed by a police officer and elementary school principal (husband and wife) to improve school safety Currently used by: 4,600 schools 3,300 Police Departments 4,000 Businesses

Why ALICE training? ALICE teaches individuals to be active participants in their own safety, while leading others to safety when possible Although no program can guarantee success in this type of situation, these new protocols will increase the odds of survival in this type of emergency

What does ALICE stand for? A – Alert L – Lockdown I – Inform C – Counter E - Evacuate Remind the staff that these steps are not meant to be sequential.

What does ALICE stand for? A – Alert Notify as many people as possible about the potential threat Provide initial information Factual and direct Remind the staff that these steps are not meant to be sequential.

Timeline Summer 2017 – On-line and scenario training for administration and some building personnel 6 - 12 CERT team members per building Teachers, Counselors, Nurses, Secretaries, Custodians August – On-line training for all teachers October/November faculty meeting – scenario training for all teachers November/December – On-line training for all remaining staff
