Anterior = Adenophypophysis Posterior = Neurophypohysis

Adenohypophysis --superior hypohphyseal artery--portal system in pars tuberalis—superior hypophyseal vein. Hypothalamic neurons release hormones into portal sytem. Pars Tuberalis

Neurovascular hypothesis—secretions from hypothalamic neurons regulate pituitary secretion. PVN and SON neurons synthesize hormones (oxytocin & vasopressin) that are released directly. Other nuclei secrete hormones that control the adenohypophysis (via portal system)

Hyposecretion—hypothalamic disease, tumor Hypersecretion—pituitary tumors, enhanced hypothalamic stimulation
