Presentation transcript:

Functions of the Spinal Nerves -division of the peripheral nervous system (PNS), which branch from the spinal cord (CNS) 1. Intercostal - transmits motor impulses to Internal intercostal and External intercostal muscles and muscles of the upper abdominal wall; transmits sensory impulses from the skin of the thorax and abdomen 2. Femoral - transmits motor impulses to the Iliacus, Psoas major, Sartorius, Pectineus, Rectus femoris, Vastus lateralis, Vastus medialis, and Vastus intermedius; transmits sensory impulses from the skin of the thighs and legs 3. Ulnar - transmits motor impulses to Flexor carpi ulnaris; transmits sensory impulses from the skin of the hands 4. Obturator - transmits motor impulses to Adductor magnus, Adductor longus, Pectineus, and gracilis

5. Sciatic - transmits motor impulses to Biceps femoris, Semitendinosus, and Semimembranosus; transmit sensory impulses from the skin of the thighs, legs, and feet 6. Radial - transmits motor impulses to Triceps brachii, brachioradialis, Extensor carpi radialis longus, Extensor carpi radialis brevis, Extensor digitorum, Extensor carpi ulnaris, and Supinator; transmits sensory impulses from the skin of the forearms and hands 7. Musculocutaneous - transmits motor impulses to Biceps brachii Coracobrachialis, and Brachialis; transmits sensory impulses from the skin of the forearms 8. Median - transmits motor impulses to Pronator teres, Flexor carpi radialis, and Palmaris longus; transmits sensory impulses from the skin of the hands

9. Phrenic - transmits motor impulses to diaphragm 10. Axillary - transmits motor impulses to Deltoid and Teres minor; transmits sensory impulses from the skin of the anterior, lateral, and posterior regions of the arm
