Bell Work Mrs. Smith 2016-2017

Bell Work Activities and Expectations Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Mindset Monday Teamwork Tuesday Word of the Week Wednesday Thoughtful Thursday Fraction Friday Students will be asked to respond in their Bell Work books to a given quote or question. Eg. “How could you reword the following to a statement that shows growth mindset….” Students will be given a task to complete with a set number of classmates in the time provided. Eg. “With two classmates, find 4 examples of acute angles in the classroom. Write your findings on a post it and submit.” Two “weekly wordsmiths” will be chosen to find the part of speech and meaning of a given word. Class will make notes in their Bell Work books and use the word in a sentence. A running list will be kept. Students will be given a quote, question, or picture prompt. They will respond in their Bell Work books to the associated questions. Students will be given a fraction. For the fraction they will find: an equivalent, a percent, a decimal, and a real word application. Mrs. Smith 2016-2017

Re-write these fixed mindset statements as growth mindset statements. Mindset Monday Re-write these fixed mindset statements as growth mindset statements. I’m not good at this. My abilities determine everything. I have to get good grades. This will never work. I hate challenges. I don’t like when others succeed. Why do I even bother? I don’t make mistakes. My first plan didn’t work. This needs to be perfect. What grade did I get? I give up! I need to be perfect. I just can’t do math! I’m not good enough. This is too hard! He/She is telling me what to do. Final reflection: It’s good enough. What advice would you give to someone who has a fixed mindset about their learning? I’ll never be as smart as him. I don’t want to try. I’m the only one who needs help. Ididn’t want “that” anyway. He/She is better than me. I can’t make this better. I’m not worth it. I made mistakes. I’m either good at it, or I’m not. That didn’t work. I’m the best. When I fail, I’m no good. I have to succeed Mrs. Smith 2016-2017
