Reducing and Plotting Celestial Sights Homework Solutions Global Navigation Chapter 4

Objectives Calculate the altitude, intercept and azimuth of sights taken on the moon, planets or stars using a scientific calculator. Plot a single celestial LOP from a sight taken on any of the celestial bodies. Plot a celestial fix using two, three or more celestial sights.

b) Plot and label the two-body fix. Question 1 Refer to Chapter 3, Homework exercise #11. A) Complete the bottom portions of the USPS SR96 forms you started in this exercise to find the intercept (a) and azimuth (Zn) for the sights on these two bodies by the Law of Cosines method. b) Plot and label the two-body fix.

Question 2 During the morning of 5 December while cruising near the Bahamas at L21°45,0’N, Lo072°33,6’W, you obtain sights on the following bodies : Body Zone Time Intercept Zn Procyon 0522 1,0 nm, T 255° Capella 0526 1,4 nm, T 312° Suhail 0530 1,0 nm, A 197° Plot and label the three-body fix.
