Thesis statement: presents your position on the topic of your paper. Thesis Review Thesis statement: presents your position on the topic of your paper. Usually about 1-2 sentences Found at the end of intro paragraph Be as clear as possible! Ensure the reader knows exactly what you will be talking about. Avoid vague, abstract words: get right to the point of what you will be discussing. Make specific references to your paper in particular. Think: why does this matter? Why should the reader want to read my paper?
Examples Weak thesis: Job opportunities in technological fields are expanding. Strong thesis: Due to the rapid demand of instant communication by cell phone and computer usage, employment opportunities are growing within major companies such as Apple and Microsoft. Weak thesis: The Harry Potter book series is more enjoyable than the movies. Strong thesis: Due to J.K. Rowling’s vivid imagery, strong characterization, and ability to craft suspense, the Harry Potter books are better crafted than the less-detailed films.
