Virtual Webinar Series Count Days Overview 2018-2019 School Year CSAS| Kansas State Department of Education | Landon State Office Building 900 S.W. Jackson St., Suite XXX, Topeka, KS 66612 | 785-296-3444 | jgirodat@ksde.org

Objectives… Definitions Count Day(s) Calculating minutes enrolled and FTE for virtual students 18 and under Documentation needed for count days Counting virtual students 19 and over Future Webinars

Definitions Virtual Student: enrolled in a KSDE approved virtual school or program (education is asynchronous – student can access any time, anywhere) Adult (NG): any student over the age of 18 AND whose 5th year cohort has graduated, or any student over the age of 21 DOES NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH FUNDING 5th year senior (17): a senior whose 5th year cohort has not graduated regardless of age Virtual funding only looks at student age on September 20 18 or under on September 20 = funding on minutes 19 or over on September 20 = funding on credits earned

Count Day – Virtual 18 and under 2018-2019 school year count day is THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 20 2 Day Count for Virtual School/Program Students 1 day on or before September 19 1 day on or after September 20, but before October 4

Count Day – Virtual 18 and under

Count Day – Virtual 18 and under Example: September 15 – 112 minutes September 16 – 130 minutes September 17 – 300 minutes September 18 – 0 minutes September 19 – 240 minutes September 20 – 360 minutes September 21 – 300 minutes September 22 – 0 minutes September 23 – 0 minutes September 24 – 0 minutes Longest day September 19 and before = 300 Longest day September 20 or after (but before October 4) = 360 Enrolled minutes = 360+300/2 Enrolled minutes = 330 FTE = 330/360 FTE = .9

Count Day – Virtual 18 and under Documenting Count Days Attendance Virtual School Sample Forms for documenting count day time On-line: printout from computer system showing amount of time student was logged in Off-line: documented with an Academic Activity Log Log must be signed by student, or student’s guardian if they are younger than 18 Logs must be signed by November 1 On-site: documented by sign in/sign out sheets showing when the student attended

Count Day – Virtual 19+ The only date that matter in determining 19 and over vs. 18 and under is September 20 (regardless of when it falls)… if a student is 19 on September 20, they are funded as a 19+ Virtual student There essentially is no count day Students are funded based on credits completed (July 1-June 30) Still need to send an ENRL record for headcount purposes Minutes Enrolled = 360

Finally… Questions??? Next Webinar August 15 – Virtual Funding 18 and under (joined by Laurel Murdie) September 5 – Virtual Funding 19 and over I will send a calendar with dates and links
