The ‘HOW’ Question

Persuasive writers use a variety of techniques to attempt to influence an audience. This question will require analysis of how the text does this.

The writer makes it tense with the headline, Point The writer makes it tense with the headline, Evidence “Fight shark” Explain This suggests the article will be a battle or violent experience.

The writer makes it tense and frightening by stating how the shark moves, Point Evidence “The shark sped off…came right for me” Explain This suggests the shark was extremely quick and only adds to the terror it possesses.

Point The writer makes it frightening by describing how the shark looked, Evidence “bulging eyes and terrifying teeth” Explain This suggests that’s the shark’s teeth are visible and perhaps ready to attack while the alliteration emphasises the terror. The “bulging” of the eyes implies the shark is bursting at the seams for action.
