Coloma Team Discovery Ropes Challenge Science - Earth and Water… the Great Recyclers

Team Discovery Ropes Team Discovery is devoted to the delivery of learning experiences that motivate people to go beyond their perceived boundaries, to work with others, to solve problems, and to achieve success both individually and within a group. Group Initiatives/Low Elements Imaginary scenarios are created that challenge groups to plan, experiment, concentrate, and communicate. High Elements While securely harnessed to a belay line, participants will traverse cables 20 to 35 feet above the ground. Team members will act as a safety and support network.

Science Using the Earth as their classroom, students will actively investigate the weather and life cycles in the Sierra Nevada foothills. What is water? How is water recycled on Earth? How does water get from one place to another? What is an adaptation? What is the major source of power for the Earth’s life systems? All of the educational programs at the Outdoor School operate around the concept of respect: for nature, oneself, and others.

Chaperones (cont.) Parents will not be in the same learning group as their child. Why? “Outdoor school is an opportunity to grow for many children. We've found that students perform better when independent from Mom or Dad. Remind parents that they will have times to reconnect: at meals, free time, during the evening program, and in the bunkhouse (if specifically requested).” –Coloma Outdoor Discovery School
