Succession Training Plan Who’s going to take over your business when you are ready to retire?
As a relationship manager, you are responsible for running your business as your own. Your business is built on your reputation and personal brand. What you are selling is your self. But what happens to your clients when you need a vacation or you eventually want to retire? Who can do your job as effectively as you do? Let’s discuss Succession Planning and the Informal training that is required to ensure a smooth partnership and transiion.
Succession Planning Process Plan in advance 1 Choose the right person 2 Retire or take vacations 3 Your successor may add value during training 4 Training your successor is a long process so stategize in advance You get to train the person who will succeed you while business continues as usual Finding the right person can also take time. You may feel confident that one person has what it takes to run the business, but they might not work out. By starting your plan early you will have time to train an alternate if the first choice does not work out. Once you have trained someone, you can choose to go on as many vacations or retire as early as you want. A good protégé is one who has something to contribute even while you’re still running the business.
