Presentation transcript:

Brave New World: Mid-Novel Collaborative Write Using evidence from the first 14 chapters of Huxley’s Brave New World, choose one of the following questions and write a literary analysis paragraph or paragraphs to respond to the prompt. Details: You are encouraged to work with a partner on this assignment. By discussing the text and your developing writing, you will eliminate misconceptions about both BNW and writing to convey formal literary analysis. Your writing will be scored on our class’s literary analysis rubric which is posted on my website. Your writing is due by 9:50 A.M. Wednesday to turnitin.com but can be submitted today.

Standard prompt options: What does Huxley show through BNW about the effects of post-Industrialization societal change due to mass production? How does Huxley show through BNW that giving people more freedom and less authority will degrade them? Compare and contrast two major characters that provide a foil for each other in BNW and discuss why Huxley creates that juxtaposition.

Challenge prompt options: In the first half of BNW, how does Huxley exploit the anxieties of his conformist, bourgeois audience about both Soviet Communism and Fordist American capitalism? Identify and analyze instances of British ethnocentrism you perceive in Huxley’s narrative. Discuss the uses and effects of a specific type or types of imagery in the novel. Create your own prompt: Go beyond class! Analyze the ways in which the author conveys a particular insight in the novel.
