UNIT 1: LEARNING TARGETS 1. Students can explain the cultures that developed in the Americas, before European exploration. 2. Students understand the motivations for exploration and can compare and contrast the voyages of Columbus and the other explorers of the New World. 3. Students can analyze and describe the impact of the Columbian Exchange. 4. Students understand why the Spanish are the first to conquer N.A. populations in North and South America, creating an enormous empire, and why others followed later. 5. Students understand that variations in- -The Environment -Geography -Climate -Natural Resources -all contributed to regional differences in what would become the British colonies.
