Licensure Timeline Get Illinois license immediately when you graduate! Saves you from potentially having to take additional courses should the program, ISBE or state law requirements change. This is extremely important! Provides permanent record of licensure Other states may not certify you without Illinois licensure first Applying with the CoTE (in and of itself) is no protection against changes!!! You must also Claim license (directions will be provided)!
Completing the Entitlement Request Form Name Must use name that appears on Banner If your name has changed, have it changed in UIUC’s records. (ISBE will likely have the name you used when your “account” was first created). We can’t change it. You’ll have to change it in ELIS). Mailing address Permanent address
Month/Year Program Completion Date of Birth Month/Year Program Completion This should be the month/year you will be completing ALL necessary requirements for licensure. Degree Put type of degree you are earning (must have master’s)
Email address. Very Important!!!! This is where we will notify you to complete licensure process Do NOT use your UIUC account Instead, use a different account (such as hotmail or gmail)-whatever you wish-as long as you check it regularly Check your spam and junk folder Phone number # where we can reach you w/questions
Type of License Program Professional Educator License (PEL) Endorsed in Speech Language Pathologist: Non- teaching Program Speech Language Pathologist
Read small print Print name, sign, and date form Turn application in to Clarion
Final audit is based on SPSHS program form provided by Clarion. Make sure courses listed match records If applicable, SHS will need to identify courses from OTHER institutions Must have transcripts from other institutions attached (We’ll have your UIUC records). Transcripts must come from SHS (we don’t accept unofficial transcripts from students) Nothing can be done until we have this/these documents
Requirements Needed Prior to Recommendation for Licensure Appropriate test scores Departmental Recommendation Satisfactory completion of internship Passing grades for required courses (C- or better) Application for temporary license with IDFPR (I have to call them and check on this) Masters Degree (has to appear on transcripts) This delay might pose “issues” for employment. Contact us and we MIGHT be able to provide assurances to employers that you are “on track” for licensure.
You MUST Send transcripts to ISBE (an option when you request a transcript). Once transcripts are sent, Admissions & Records will send you a confirmation. Forward that confirmation to me. My office must have confirmation before we will recommend for licensure. (This requirement is borne from the problem that too few candidates weren’t sending transcripts to ISBE after they claim their license).
www.icts.nesinc.com Testing Required tests: 1)Test of Basic Skills (in one of its various manifestations) 2) Speech Language Pathologist: Nonteaching (154) Make sure your SSN is correct Make sure scores are sent to UIUC (052) Keep your scores forever!
Claiming your license Your licensure is not complete until the following steps are completed. Do not think you are licensed or protected against changes until you claim it! Every year we have people who disregard this step and almost invariably have problems later-if they do try to claim it. If you have problems or cannot complete the following steps, contact us or ISBE. Don’t ignore problems, thinking or hoping they will go away.
We will notify you by e-mail after we’ve recommended you for licensure (roughly a month after graduation) We will provide a link and instructions which you need to access and follow. ISBE How to guide: https://vimeo.com/180605529 Create an account or, if you already have an account, log on to Educator Licensure System (“ELIS/Educator Credentials”) Follow directions completely Be prepared to pay with credit card Be sure to register license online Register it in district where you work or live. Just be sure to register it somewhere (anywhere). If you don’t register it, it will become “lapsed.”
Once the above steps are completed school administrators who have your IEIN (Illinois Educator Identification Number) can verify that you are licensed. Can (probably should) copy your credentials and paste them onto a word document and then print them out. There is a place in your ELIS account where you can print your credentials. You will hold a Professional Educator License (PEL) endorsed in Speech Language Pathologist, Non- teaching
