WorldSkills UK LIVE Understanding Different Sectors

What are sectors? Across the world there are millions of different businesses, producing, selling and delivering different products and services. A sector describes a group of businesses that share the same or a related product or service. Sometimes these are called industries. It is important to understand the different sectors, as this will help you to think about which sector or sectors you might like to work in, what employers operate in different sectors and where there is growth (some sectors are really growing so there are more career opportunities!).

Do you know what sectors these companies are in?

Did you get the sectors right? Hair & Beauty Transport & Logistics Manufacturing & Engineering Catering & Hospitality Creative & Design Protective Services

Key sectors in the UK Agriculture, Environmental & Animal Care Business & Administration Catering & Hospitality Childcare & Education Construction Creative & Design Digital Engineering & Manufacturing Finance, Accounting & Legal Hair & Beauty Health & Science Protective Services Sales, Marketing & Procurement Social Care Transport & Logistics

Employers are more than a sector BMW is a manufacturing and engineering company. But, it also has a large number of staff working in design and marketing, business and administration and finance teams. This means you could combine your interest in business and in building things with a finance career in the manufacturing and engineering sector.

Digital job trends

How can you put this knowledge to use at WorldSkills UK LIVE? Take a closer look at the sectors that will be at WorldSkills UK LIVE You can do this on the Youth Employment UK Careers Hub where you will find each sector and can find out Labour market information (LMI) for each sector What different career roles are in each sector What qualifications and experience you need to start a career in those roles

How can you put this knowledge to use at WorldSkills UK LIVE? Thank you
