BOOK REVIEW Tuesday, 27 November 2018

Planning: Using the checklist you made as homework, it is time to plan and write your reviews. As you read the book you need to make notes to help you to write the final task. This is one I did earlier:

What is significant about the way the story is told? “There is no hanging around in Joe Simpson’s story of men against mountains…” Ok, boring, but I was struggling… Introduce reader to the characters and the contexts… Consider a HOOK: “ Can it ever be right to kill a friend?” it any good? Vocabulary. What is significant about the way the story is told? Remember that a review needs a judgement of quality – what do you think? Summary of views…

INFORMATION! Your writing should be clear and easily understood. You must work to an order. You should use a variety of tenses, including MODAL verbs – people might…, parents should be aware that… If in doubt, plan under headings: genre, plot/events, characters, literary merit…

Now it’s your turn. Now you can begin your planning. Concentrate on the opening paragraph. Write the opening paragraph and, if time, share it with your neighbour in the usual way. Complete and improve for homework.
