Game Management SLOA – Mar 7 2016

Off-field Pre Game Get in the right mindset Go over any new rules changes Communication Know the game’s skill level Know the type of game it may be Appearance matters!

On-Field Pre Game Talk with coaches Captains conference FOGO conference Table conference Inspect the field and nets Talk with coaches – make sure to spend the same amount of time with both. Keep it brief Captains conference – keep it brief. Attention span for learning = chronological age + 1 Fogo conference – do this everytime, mainly to look for tape. Once again – keep it brief! Table conference – make sure everyone is on the same page. Figure out if there could be a problem with inexperience Let us know if you have problems keeping the box clear. Clock starts and stops on the whistle. When we are reporting penalties we are not going anywhere until you are comfortable with what is happening. Loudly count down penalty time 5…4…3…2…1 release! Player cannot release on a faceoff until possession is called. If a player leaves early from his penalty note who has possession at the time and blow the horn twice at the next dead ball. Do the same if a head coach requests an official’s conference. Let the nearest official know when a player has 3 or more minutes of personal fouls. Any player with five is disqualified.

Thoughts During the Game TPOAD 1st flag sets the standard (CONSISTENCY) Communication with each other Communication with coaches (Climb the Ladder) With experience comes recognizing… Offensive tendencies Defensive tendencies Match-ups Game time situations Break the game up into 4or5 min segments TPOAD - The principle of advantage/disadvantage – has an advantage been taken away? If yes, quickly remedy. If no, don’t get involved. Only works for technical fouls Communication w/each other – Tambo’s Ws, relay penalty time, let partners know if you warned someone or if you think some skullduggery is afoot and you haven’t definitively seen it yet Communication with coaches – passion vs personal. Life is good until they make it personal. Then we need to take care of it.

Rivalry & Play Off Games Situations Rivalry & Play Off Games Mentally prepare Preventative pre-game Stay alert for extracurriculars Blowouts Stay interested Stay alert for extracurriculars Get the ball off the ground

Mo’ Situations Time Outs End of Quarter End of Game NCAA vs NFHS differences Tambo’s Ws come into play here more than anywhere Restarts Do we want quick restarts? Absolutely Do we want restarts that create chaos? No Do we want quick but controlled restarts? - Yes Do we want restarts that disadvantage either team? No NFHS – live ball: can only be called by offense anywhere on the field. Dead ball: either team can call NCAA – live ball: offense can call past restraining line. Dead ball: either team can call except on loose ball/violation (then only offense)

Still Mo’ Situations Crease Issues Stay away from preliminary signals Accordions & Yo-Yos Fight! Be a presence when necessary Freeze the benches Take down numbers

Jesus…we want to leave. Stop with mo’ situations Loose Ball TFs Get it off the ground TPOAD Mistakes Get it right Everyone now realizes that you are there.
