MIXED METHODS IN RESEARCH STUDIES: LEARNING FROM EXAMPLES

CONTEXT OF STUDY Researchers commonly use interviews, focus groups and surveys as methods of data collection. Studies are designed to examine facet of behavior of social media users and their experiences Samples often use adolescents as participants because they are majority users of social media platforms. Social media platforms provide substantial data used in the study

QUANTITATIVE VS QUALITATIVE Qualitative method approach is more dominant than qualitative method approach in mixed method approach The literature review in the subjective approach is a summative starting point for researchers quantitative analysis of the data available. Grounded theories guide researchers to develop their hypothesis for the studies.

OUTCOMES Vast data is generated in the research that provide researchers with unprecedented opportunities of analysis Quantitative approach yields valuable insights for solid decision making. Applicable analytical methods and interview questions on social media that are answered by the studies are equally diverse. Social media is a multi-dimensional phenomena that is reflected in different data dimensions.

SUMMARY Use of more data dimensions more reliable results. The large content available in mixed methods in qualitative research limits the scope of research Reliance of one method of research may present biasness Outcomes of researches that use mixed methods are too broad
