What is the equation for cellular respiration?

C O H O

C O C O H O

Cellular respiration (inputs) We get the glucose (C6H12O6) for the reaction from our food. We get the oxygen (O2) for the action from the air we breathe. The reaction takes place in the ____________ of our cells.

Cellular respiration (outputs) The produced carbon dioxide (CO2) is a waste product that is exhaled. The produced water (H2O) is also a waste product that is exhaled. The energy produced by this reaction is stored within the bonds of a complex molecule called _________________________

Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) The energy produced by cellular respiration is stored in the bonds of ATP.

True or False? Cellular respiration occurs only in animal cells.

How does oxygen move around your body?

Photosynthesis Photosynthesis occurs only in plant cells. It occurs in the chloroplasts of plant cells. The reaction is the inverse of cellular respiration!

Photosynthesis inputs C O C O H O

Photosynthesis outputs C O H O

Photosynthesis Equation 6 H2O + 6 CO2 + Energy C6H12O6 + 6 O2

Photosynthesis inputs Plants get the CO2 from the air around them. They absorb H2O from their roots. They get energy in the form of radiant energy (usually solar energy from the sun).

Photosynthesis Outputs Oxygen is released, which we breathe in. Glucose is produced, which the plant cells use themselves for their own cellular respiration. We can ingest this glucose if we eat the plant, or an animal that has eaten this plant.

Potential Test Questions! If you are exercising vigorously, how does this affect cellular respiration?

Potential Test Question This water is oxygenated (it has O2 bubbles dissolved in it). If you drink it, will it help your cells respire faster?
