The Threefold Purpose They show us who Jesus really is. They stir a desire to follow Him. They help us to know the one we follow.

All that Jesus said and did provides the surety we need to trust and follow Him our entire lives.

(1) The Plea of Jairus Mark 5:21-24

Mark 1:21 And they went into Capernaum; and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and {began} to teach.

Mark 3:1 And He entered again into a synagogue; and a man was there with a withered hand.

Luke 8:41,42 And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was an official of the synagogue; and he fell at Jesus’ feet, and {began} to entreat Him to come to his house; 42 for he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying. But as He went, the multitudes were pressing against Him.

(2) Jesus’ Authority Over Life and Death Mark 5:35-43

Matt. 18:17 “And if he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax-gatherer.

Matt. 9:23 And when Jesus came into the official’s house, and saw the flute-players, and the crowd in noisy disorder,

Luke 8:53 And they {began} laughing at Him, knowing that she had died.

John 11:11,12 This He said, and after that He said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I go, that I may awaken him out of sleep.” 12 The disciples therefore said to Him, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.”

John 11:13 Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that He was speaking of literal sleep.

1Ths. 4:13,14 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve, as do the rest who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.

1Ths. 4:15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, and remain until the coming of the Lord, shall not precede those who have fallen asleep.

Eccl. 12:7 then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.

Luke 8:55 And her spirit returned, and she rose immediately; and He gave orders for {something} to be given her to eat.

Mark 12:26 “But regarding the fact that the dead rise again, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the {passage about the burning} bush, how God spoke to him, saying, ‘I AM THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND THE GOD OF ISAAC, and the God of Jacob’?

Mark 12:27 “He is not the God of the dead, but of the living; you are greatly mistaken.”

Rom. 1:3,4 concerning His Son, who was born of a descendant of David according to the flesh, 4 who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord,

1Pet. 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

The Realms of Jesus’ Authority He has authority over the physical realm He has authority over the spiritual realm He has authority over sin He has authority over life and death

All that Jesus said and did provides the surety we need to trust and follow Him our entire lives.
