Jobs is nowhere to be found Jobs is nowhere to be found. Then finally, in a corner of the jumbled backstage area, Rotenberg spots him. Jobs is sitting on the floor. His legs are crossed. His posture erect, he faces the wall, unmoving. One of the biggest moments of his career Jobs pauses to meditate. Mindful Work Reid Hoffman co founder of linked in 2002. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-brendel/its-time-to-revisit-the-c_b_9979600.html Mindfulness taught at google, general mills, apple, medtronic, goldman sachs

According to the laboratory of neuroimaging at the University of Southern California, the average person has approximately 70,000 thoughts per day . Of these, it is estimated that 80-90% are repetitive and useless.   http://www.loni.usc.edu/about_loni/education/brain_trivia.php

One study, in the Journal of Clinical Psychology, has shown that mindfulness increases happiness and well-being, while a major study in Psychological Science revealed such changes help regular meditators live longer, healthier lives. Other research has shown that it improves memory, creativity, and reaction times. https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/mindfulness-in-frantic- world/201207/meditate-just-the-us-marines

The benefits of mindfulness appear after just a few sessions of meditation but also build up over time. Researchers at the Massachusetts General Hospital have found that if people continue to meditate over several years, the physical structure of the brain is altered for the better. https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/mindfulness-in-frantic- world/201207/meditate-just-the-us-marines

Given time, this means that you’re more likely to feel happy rather than sad, increasingly likely to live with ease rather than be angry or aggressive, and be energised rather than tired and listless. These are the benefits reported by the US Marines who have undergone mindfulness training. https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/mindfulness-in-frantic- world/201207/meditate-just-the-us-marines This can also work against us. If we react to each negative emotion by stewing in thought about past wrongs or planning efforts to get even – these patterns become more ingrained trapping us in a prison of our own making.

The brain can be trained! If a situation is determined to be threatening, the amygdala is activated and the flight or flight response kicks. Eight weeks of meditation shrinks the amygdala. Less likely to overreact. The brain can be trained! Gelles D. Mindful Work This can also work against us. If we react to each negative emotion by stewing in thought about past wrongs or planning efforts to get even – these patterns become more ingrained trapping us in a prison of our own making. The brain the organ of lifes experience can be trained.

Harvard Professor Daniel Gilbert and his student Matthew Killingsworth write that “unlike other animals, humans spend a lot of time thinking about what is not going on around them, contemplating events that happened in the past, might happen in the future or will never happen at all.”

‘Track Your Happiness’ App Five thousand people from 83 countries participated in Killingsworth’s research project, logging 250,000 data points. The research revealed that people’s minds wandered considerably, and that people "were less happy when their minds were wandering than when they were not,"

‘I wasn’t scatterbrained anymore,’ says Major Jeff Davis, a 40-year-old infantry officer. ‘I had no problem concentrating when I was upset.
