Clarification on TXSS Sector List Feedback May 2015 doc.: IEEE 802.11-15/0496r1 May 2018 Clarification on TXSS Sector List Feedback Date: 2018-05-02 Authors: Name Company Address Phone Email Lei Huang Panasonic Corporation   lei.huang@sg.panasonic.com Hiroyuki Motozuka Lei HUANG (Panasonic) Edward Au (Marvell Semiconductor)

Introduction May 2018 Common flow for SISO, SU-MIMO and MU-MIMO BF: Assumptions: the SISO phase of SU-MIMO or MU-MIMO BF does not comprise TXSS subphase. SISO BF is based on BRP phase (e.g., BRP transaction) Initiator Responder(s) SISO, SU-MIMO or MU-MIMO BF training TXSS sector list feedback Initiator/Responder TXSS TXSS sector list feedback is mainly used for sector down-selection purpose Lei Huang (Panasonic)

TXSS Sector List Feedback for SISO BF May 2018 TXSS Sector List Feedback for SISO BF If requested, feedback for responder link is included in EDMG Channel Measurement element & Channel Measurement Feedback element: If the number of the received sectors is less than 16, all received sectors shall be feedback. Otherwise at least 16 received sectors shall be feedback. Feedback request for initiator link BRP BRP Initiator BRP Responder Feedback for initiator link is contained in EDMG Channel Measurement element & Channel Measurement Feedback element: If the number of the received sectors is less than 16, all received sectors shall be feedback. Otherwise at least 16 received sectors shall be feedback. Optional feedback request for responder link Lei Huang (Panasonic)

TXSS Sector List Feedback for SU-MIMO BF May 2018 TXSS Sector List Feedback for SU-MIMO BF Feedback for responder link is included in EDMG Channel Measurement element & Channel Measurement Feedback element: If the number of the received sectors for a pair of TX/RX antennas is less than 16, all received sectors for the pair of TX/RX antennas shall be feedback. Otherwise at least 16 received sectors for the pair of TX/RX antennas shall be feedback. Feedback request for initiator link BRP Initiator BRP Responder Feedback for initiator link is included in EDMG Channel Measurement element & Channel Measurement Feedback element: If the number of the received sectors for a pair of TX/RX antennas is less than 16, all received sectors for the pair of TX/RX antennas shall be feedback. Otherwise at least 16 received sectors for the pair of TX/RX antennas shall be feedback. Lei Huang (Panasonic)

TXSS Sector List Feedback for MU-MIMO BF May 2018 TXSS Sector List Feedback for MU-MIMO BF Feedback request for initiator link BRP Initiator BRP Any responder in MU group EDMG Channel Measurement element & Channel Measurement Feedback element: If the number of the received sectors for a pair of TX/RX antennas is less than 16, all received sectors for the pair of TX/RX antennas shall be feedback. Otherwise at least 16 received sectors for the pair of TX/RX antennas shall be feedback. EDMG BRP Request element: the L-TX-RX and Requested EDMG TRN-Unit M fields indicate the number of TRN subfields requested for receive AWV training in the following non-reciprocal MU-MIMO BF training Lei Huang (Panasonic)

May 2018 Problem Statement When receiving a polling BRP frame from the initiator, the responder may not know how to respond properly since it has no idea about the following BF training is for SISO, SU-MIMO or MU-MIMO BF training. Notice that the feedback content in the responding BRP frame varies depending on what type of BF training will be performed. Lei Huang (Panasonic)

May 2018 Proposal Add a 2-bit field called BF Training Type into the DMG Beam Refinement element to indicate whether the following BF training is SISO, SU-MIMO or MU-MIMO BF training. 0: SISO BF training 1: SU-MIMO BF training 2: MU-MIMO BF training 3: reserved The spec text proposal is provided in 18/0681r2.
