Romeo and Juliet Act 1 Scene 1 Verona, Italy 2/6/18

Today’s Goals Today’s Standard Review WHAT will happen in the play Observe multiple productions of Act 1 Scene 1 Determine the plotline Analyze how each presented the same information, and if the choices were successful Critique the overall presentation CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.7 Analyze the representation of a subject or a key scene in two different artistic mediums, including what is emphasized or absent in each treatment

Act 1 Scene 1 Summary We’re in the Streets of Verona Two Capulet (Juliet’s peeps) men are out in the streets making some jokes. Then they spot a Montague and made a rude gesture The Montague man asks if the gesture is intended for him The Capulet man says he’s just doing it for no reason, but if the Montague takes offense, he’s not mad about it This causes them to fight

Summary continued Benvolio (M) tries to break up the fight. Tybalt (C)calls him a coward (how can you have your sword out and talk of peace?) Capulet and Montague happen to walking in the street and notice the fight, they join in They are stopped by the Prince, who declares anyone who is fighting will now be punished by death. We then learn that Romeo is sad because Rosaline dumped him to become a nun (aka, Romeo is so lame and got no game, so Rosaline would rather never be with a man than be with Romeo…Burn…).
