Diversity Talks and Project SAFE Ally Profile Badges at NCSU Libraries Sydney Thompson Vice Chair, NCSU Libraries Diversity Committee 27th Annual North Carolina Serials Conference

NCSU Libraries Diversity Committee Charge To assess the Libraries' activities and recommend programs and policies to insure consistency with the goals of fostering greater diversity and inclusion To maintain and present diversity and cultural awareness and understanding information to the Libraries staff and to the university community To monitor and participate in similar diversity efforts at NCSU and elsewhere To participate actively in planning and implementing of programs and events for Libraries staff and with the university community to celebrate and enhance diversity and to bring issues of relations between people from different racial and cultural groups into focus To serve as a conduit/contact person/liaison for staff concerns related to the climate of understanding and openness to all To foster a dialogue on the climate for diversity to promote understanding across racial and cultural lines within the Libraries and beyond, as appropriate

Monthly workshop, speaker, discussion group, or campus event sponsored or co-sponsored by the Libraries Diversity Committee Purpose is to foster engaging, open discussion about current diversity topics in the library, on campus, and in our larger communities Intended for all Libraries staff; occasionally open to students or the larger NCSU community

Project SAFE Ally Profile Badges Project SAFE Ally Workshops Three-hour workshop led by NCSU GLBT Center staff Designed to prepare participants to understand and address the needs of GLBT students Participants of the workshop are named Project SAFE Allies and provided a physical badge to display outside their offices

Project SAFE Ally Profile Badges Many Libraries staff work in spaces not easily accessible to the NCSU Community Libraries Web Team created an electronic badge for Allies within the Libraries to add to their staff profile pages [Thank you to our Web Team!]
