Surat al Muzzammil Lesson Four

Lesson Plan Objectives Tafsir Verse 7, 8 and 9 Relevant verses and Ahadith Important lessons Story Practical Implementations

Objectives To reflect on Why is it difficult to have a secret conversation with Allah (swt) during the day? How do I totally dedicate myself to Allah (swt) Why should I rely on Allah (swt) for all my affairs?

Verse 7 This verse talks about the reason why in the night time one’s mind is better to receive the divine feeling and to address Allah (swt) directly. Therefore this verse reflects that during the day one is occupied at all times Sometimes it is guiding people, finding solutions to the lives of individuals and the society and one is not able to find enough opportunities to devote to worshipping Allah (swt

Verse 8 In this verse Allah (swt) is asking us to dedicate ourselves to Him. It is not enough to just remember Allah (swt) by His name, rather verbal remembrance is an introduction to the remembrance of the heart, purifying the soul, nurturing the tree of innate knowledge and fear of Allah (swt) in the heart.

Verse 9 In this verse Allah is asking to put our trust in Him. It is important to note that there are stages of remembering Allah (swt) which are mentioned in these three verses. Remembering Allah (swt) Devotingourselves to Allah (swt) Putting trust in Allah (swt) who is the lord of the east and the west.

Relevant Verses يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱذۡكُرُواْ ٱللَّهَ ذِكۡرً۬ا كَثِيرً۬ا  This verse is asking the believers to remember Allah (swt) at all times and to worship Him morning and evening أَعۡرِضۡ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكۡرِنَا وَلَمۡ يُرِدۡ إِلَّا ٱلۡحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا There is a clear instruction in this verse and that is to avoid those who turn away from the remembrance of Allah (swt).

Relevant ahadith Imam Ali (as) has said, “The most deserving to be remembered by you is the one who does not forget you”. Imam Ali (as) has said, “Remembering [Allah] comforts the soul, illuminates the heart and brings down the mercy [of Allah]”.

Important lessons Allah (swt) is acknowledging that we may be busy during the day It is important to remember Allah (swt) all the time

Story... He unsheathed his sword and rushed at him (pbuh) saying: “Who is it that can deliver you from me?” The Noble Prophet (pbuh) said: “Allah” and then prayed softly: “O' Lord! Deliver me from the evils of Huwairith in any manner as you please.” Full story in the manuals

Practical Implementations You had a very busy day because you went to school, you helped your mom cleaning the house and you were so tired that you did not have a chance to speak to Allah (swt). When is the best time you can please Allah (swt) by speaking to Him? Your friend is doing dhikr by reciting tasbih and she gets distracted and starts speaking to you. How will you explain to her that glorification of Allah (swt) requires total dedication for it to affect your soul?

Activity Brainstorm some ideas on How can one practically remember Allah (swt) all the time? (E.g. Whilst walking to school) What current distractions do we have at the moment in our lives? (E.g. Mobile phones, Facebook, Snap chat, Instagram, Television etc) How do we block these distractions that come between me and my Lord? (Keeping everyething in a balance etc) What qualities of Allah (swt) make me trust all of my affairs to him? (He is all powerful, He is in control of everything etc)
