Musical Parody Year 7 Lesson 1

What will we be doing in this unit of work? Objectives: Develop knowledge of the Musical Parody genre Develop song writing skills Be assessed on a Parody performance Outcomes: Listen to and watch examples of parody and discuss how/why music is used in comedy Create a parody of a popular song Create an understanding of Popular song structure/form Develop lyric writing skills Develop team-working skills Develop performance and presentation skills

Starter Listen to the following parody song: Dunk Your Nuts – YOUTUBE Based on Uptown Funk Task: Get into groups and brainstorm all the themes you could write a parody about.

Today: Lesson Objective: To create an effective Parody that has an effective and relevant theme. Success Criteria: Band 4: You will work effectively within a group and compose by developing ideas within musical structure. Concentrating on the first verse and chorus. Band 5: You will create an effective Parody style piece using relevant material and themes. Band 6: You will create a very effective Parody style piece that is fluent and stylish. This will only be possible by choosing an effective and relevant theme and using it throughout. Key words: Parody, group work, lyrics, composition, theme, song structure, verse, chorus, bridge, instrumental.

The Rules. No swearing No crude references No content of any sort which could be construed as bullying in any form NOW LET’S CHOOSE A SONG!!

What now?: In your group choose a song from the selection that you will base your parody on. In your group confirm what the theme of your parody will be. For next lesson, bring information/research from the internet to help you when you start writing your lyrics.

You will take a solo part. You will create an entertaining performance that is in keeping with the style. Band 5: You will create a very effective Parody style piece that is fluent and stylish. You will make a significant contribution to the ensemble and will show an ability to understand what is required of a good Parody performance. Your performance will be polished and well rehearsed.
