Christology The Virgin Birth

As Taught in the Old Testament Gen. 3:15 – the seed of the woman Isa. 7:14 - a virgin Liberalism has long sought to dismiss the translation of the Hebrew word “almah.” Instead of virgin as demanded by context, they substituted “a young woman.” A young woman being with child is hardly a sign since it occurs many times each day around the world.

As Taught in the New Testament Matt. 1:18-25 - Joseph The conception of Christ occurred during the engagement period between Joseph and Mary, specifically before they came together. The conception of Christ was the work of the Holy Spirit; it was a miracle actuated by the power of God. Further, Joseph received a special visitation of an angel specifically deputed by God to quote Isaiah 7:14

Luke 1:26-37 - Mary The text clearly identifies Mary as virgin twice in verse 27. Luke uses the same Greek term parthenos used by people of the times for a person who was morally pure. In order for such a woman to be pregnant, a miracle must transpire, which it did. Gabriel explained in answer to the question of the incredulous virgin, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?  The answer is a demonstration of the power of God.

Luke 3:23 – Genealogy of Christ Mark 6:3 – the son of Mary John 1;13 – not of the will of man Gal. 4:4 – Made of a woman There is a reason that Liberalism has taken aim at the doctrine of the virgin birth. If this doctrine is not true, Christ is at best a sincerely deluded person with impossible plans. If the virgin birth is not true, neither is anything else that the Bible teaches. Believers cannot accept that this doctrine as unimportant; it is all important.

Catholic dogma accepts the virgin birth but then adds a number of completely unscriptural designations for Mary. Mary was not the “immaculate conception,” nor the “Mother of God,” nor “Co-Mediator with Christ,” nor “Co-redemptrix,” or the “Perpetual Virgin,” nor the “Assumption,” nor the “Queen of Heaven.” She was a humble godly woman whom God used to make the body of Jesus.
